Welcome to The Queens Head
Welcome to the Queens Head, Barns Green. “Formerly called the Jug & Bottle back in the 1700s, it still has the same old beams that would crack your skull if it were not for the glitter of horse brasses to catch your attention plus an unusual collection of servie badges and the odd coin.” James Scott wrote this in 1987 for the West Sussex Gazette . The beams are still there and the horse brasses and an odd coin, but the service badge collection has gone. Back in the 1950s Diana Dors came to play darts there.
The only pub in the village where locals have met and gossiped for centuries is still a popular venue for villagers and anyone passing through.
During the colder Winter months the Inglenook is stacked with logs and lit to warm and provide a cozy glow for patrons to enjoy, whereas during the Summer months the front patio and back garden are an ideal place to enjoy food and drink al fresco.
There is an excellent Live Music Club on the first Wednesday of every month where local musicians provide and “acoustic” evening of entertainment. There is a Quiz, either Music or General Knowledge, every third Tuesday and then there will usually be an event on a Saturday, once a month.
From huge platters of ribs to a bowl of cheesy chips, you can choose from our menu of daily home cooked meals, delicious hand made pies and puddings, or our regular pub favourites, such as steak and all the trimmings or liver & bacon casserole. We also do lunch time snacks; sandwiches, baguettes, jacket potatoes, scampi and chips.
