Top 6 Things To Do In Barns Green

Updated: Sep 10, 2020

Barns Green is a beautiful small village just on the outskirts of Horsham. Although small, the village offers a selection of things to do for anyone of any age. From families to a group of friends, there is nothing boring about this quant village. The Queens Head have put together the top 6 things to do in the village.

1. Fishing at Sumners Pond

Sumners Ponds is a beautiful location right on the doorstep of the local Barns Green community. With a selection of beautiful lakes located around the area, you can grab your fishing gear and get to a busy day of catching different kinds of fish.

Sumners also has beautiful views with the Café being situated on a lake, enjoy a cup of coffee and a beautiful view first thing in the morning before you start your fisherman day.

The Ponds is also home to its famous camp site, where you can enjoy a few nights stay and explore the countryside on the doorstep.

2. Local Countryside Walks

Barns Green is home to some of the most beautiful walks in Sussex. Whether you want to go for a 10-minute stroll or a 10-mile walk, the village has a vast surrounding of countryside and woodlands to explore. Take a look at our blog post about our favourite Barns Green walk or come into The Queens Head and ask one of our knowledgeable staff about the local picturesque walks. Venture out into the fresh air, but don’t forget to make sure you have Google Maps on hand just incase!

3. Have a Drink by the Fire at The Queens Head

As the colder months approach, here at The Queens Head we are known for our famous fireplace and roaring fire throughout the winter months. This year we have added an additional log burner in our outside marquee. We decided to install this due to the covid-19 pandemic, which means you can now drink outside as it gets colder and still keep nice and warm by a fire.

Please book a table if you would like to be near the indoor fireplace for dinner or drinks, as we have limited seating inside at the moment, so it will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.

4. Watch the Local Sports Teams on the Village Green

Barns Green is known for its passion for sports. We have a variety of sports teams; the men’s contact and mixed touch rugby, cricket team, football clubs, stoolball team and our tennis club. Also Barns Green has children’s sports teams, with a big following for our children’s cricket club.

All year round the green is home to sports training and games and you can watch these in the sunshine on the glorious green, bring a picnic and enjoy the sports.

5. Watch a Film at the Village Hall

Every few months the village hall committee puts on a movie night for the locals in Barns Green, however, anyone is welcome. Tickets are available to purchase for the movie nights and information is in the local Big Mag, which you can find in The Queens Head. There have been various films shown at the Village Hall over the years, including Rocket Man and Bohemian Rhapsody which were great evenings enjoyed by all.

6. Watch Live Entertainment at The Queens Head

Here at The Queens Head we provide live entertainment every month for our wonderful customers. Our fantastic local musician Paul Stanworth puts on live music and open mic nights for other musicians to showcase their talents.

Due to the current times, we have had to make sure that all of our entertainment is outside, with strict social distancing rules. If you are interested in coming along for the open mic night, please bring your own microphone and instrument.
